My name is Cat Johnston-Floyd and I am a watercolor artist!
Though I was born and raised in South Florida, I have been living and working in Savannah, Georgia since 2010. I attended Savannah College of Art & Design from 2010 - 2014, graduating with a B.F.A. in Illustration. I started my art career in book illustration, and my work has been published in multiple children’s and text books. Currently I specialize in fine art paintings and prints. My work can be found at multiple local shops in downtown Savannah, and I often set up at Pop Up Artisan Markets around Chatham County. I love to combine delicate linework with watercolor texture to create an ethereal, dreamlike feel in my paintings. I love creating art that celebrates life, and captures sentimental experiences on paper. I love painting floral pieces using the Victorian language of flowers combined with modern meanings.
I am also fascinated with the surrealist art movement and love the way images can be visual metaphors. I love combining symbols that are not typically related to create an element of the unexpected. I especially love anything that is celestial themed or has to do with the galaxy. My current influences include both notable artists from history including Frida Kahlo, Jean Michel-Basquiat and Salvador Dali, as well as contemporary artists who explore surreal imagery and portraiture.
